COLLEYVILLE AIR RAIDS PAST GRAPEVINE IN THE BATTLE FOR THE RED RAIL

ARLINGTON- Aj Smith-Shawver threw for 5 touchdowns and 326 yards to help lead Colleyville over Grapevine 48-24 in the battle for the red rail.

A fiery first half between both teams ended in a 28-24 lead after a miracle 54-yard touchdown catch by wide receiver Brenen Hawkins-Roth for Colleyville. Colleyville used a methodical passing game to run a fast paced offense, scoring 5 out of 7 through the air.

Colleyville was also able to take advantage of Grapevine turnovers, landing on a Grapevine fumble and scoring on the 2nd play after on a Mason Murdock end-around play. Then scoring another touchdown on a Grapevine touchdown deep in their own territory. Colleyville had one less first down than Grapevine, but it never took them long to score.

The Colleyville defense was able to force Grapevine to go one dimensional as Grapevine could get nothing going on the ground game. Grapevine only had 30 yards on 13 carries. Complement this with Grapevine using a two quarterback system and you have the perfect mix up for a defense showcase.

Grapevine just could not get it going in the second half. Not scoring a single point in the half. Griffin Edwards was a highlight for the Mustangs, having 12 catches for 128 yards and two touchdowns, including a one handed touchdown in the first half.
