In an electric atmosphere on the opening night at newly built Children’s Health Stadium, Prosper came out on top over Rowlett 31-7.
For Prosper, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. The Eagles’ first drive of the year ended with a fumble in their own territory. Quickly followed by a pick-six from Rowlett’s Taiwan Edwards, it looked as if Prosper could be in trouble.
From that moment, however, Prosper went on a 31-0 run to close the game, sending Rowlett home packing.
Starting quarterback Jackson Berry looked impressive in his debut. Berry threw 17 times, completing 10 of them for 105 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
On the ground, Prosper proved to be lethal. JT Lane exploded for 130 yards and two scores before exiting with an injury early in the third quarter. Junior backup Julian Higgins carried the load from there, adding 92 rushing yards with a touchdown of his own.
Overall, Prosper combined for over 300 yards on the ground on Friday.
On the other side of the ball, Prosper’s defense acted as a wrecking crew to the Rowlett offense. Star junior linebacker Aidan Siano was all over the field, highlighted by an interception early in the ball game. The Eagles’ D smothered Rowlett quarterback Alex Routt, holding him to a sub-40% completion percentage.
The secondary did their part as well, as star receiver Antonio Hull was targeted 18 times this game. Hull totaled an even 100 yards on eight catches.
Prosper entered into Children’s Health Stadium on Friday with a lot to prove — To both fans and critics.
Showing off a new-look roster and a $48-million stadium, the Eagles proved why they’re considered one of the more dominant Dallas-Fort Worth teams in class 5A.
