Lewisville looks to Build Off Incredible 2018 Campaign

A year removed from a 2-8 season, Lewisville rallied to a 9-3 season in 2018. Though the Farmers’ unbelievable run came to an end with a loss to the eventual state finalists Duncanville in the second round of the playoffs, it was a step in the right direction. For the first time in years, Lewisville has a real shot at contending for state glory.

Entering 2019, quarterback AJ Newsome is gone and a quarterback competition is expected to decide who’ll be under center next season. Whoever the next quarterback is, they’ll have plenty of weapons to work with, specifically 2022 wide receiver Armani Winfield. After posting 376 receiving yards his freshman year, the lengthy wideout is expected to step into a much larger role as the centerpiece of the Farmer offense. In the backfield, Ben McAfee and Lester Thigpen return for their senior campaign and give the offense proven weapons in the ground game.

Defensively, the Farmers should be stout once again. For a defense that let up more than 30 points only twice last season, they return a lot of talent. Shadwell Nkuba II will be a prospect to watch and could be a late riser in the 2020 circuit. Alongside Nkuba, major contributors returning include linebacker Luke Halter, defensive lineman Khristian Versey, Antonio Wiley, Earl Barnes and Julius Campbell , among others.

Behind a defense full of returners and an offense full of promising talent, the Farmers are in prime position to take the next step into regional and potentially even state contenders.
