Simply put, the Chaparrals got their revenge.
A year after Cy Ranch had upset Austin Westlake 25-21, the Chaparrals came out ready for a win and executed, cruising past the Mustangs 35-7.
Westlake had everything going for them on both sides of the ball. Offensively, quarterbacks Cade Klubnik and Kirkland Michaux combined for 278 yards and four touchdowns. Wide receiver Ryan Lindley went off on the receiving end, hauling in three touchdowns off of157 yards. Defensively, Lucas Miruer lead the Chaparrals with 10 tackles, and the team combined for seven tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, and two sacks.
Junior quarterback D.J. Ciers put Cy Ranch on the board early with a 26-yard touchdown run that would prove to be the only points that the Mustangs were able to put up all night. The rest of the night, the Cy Ranch offense fumbled three times, setting up multiple Westlake touchdowns. Ciers finished with 65 rushing yards and 61 passing yards, and senior running back Willie Eldridge had 96 rushing yards. Defensively, senior Christian Richards lead the charge with seven tackles.
Westlake proved why they are a force to be reckoned with tonight and will look to continue to move up in the 6A rankings. The Chaparrals head back home to Westlake High School to take on Akins on September 13th at 7:30, and Cy Ranch will stay at Cy Fair FCU Stadium to take on Langham Creek on September 12th at 6:30.
