WR Rodney Wilson Jr. – KIPP Sunnyside HS (Houston, TX) | 6’0 | 165 lbs | C/O 2026 | @RodneyUnoWilson
Rodney Wilson Jr., aka Uno or better known as simply “RJ,” is a young, gifted receiver that is flying under the radar for reasons unknown. He attends a charter school, which is considered a small school in Texas. However, that has absolutely nothing to do with his talent and contribution on Friday nights. You can line him up anywhere on the field and he would be a threat to score every time he touches the football. His film lacks NOTHING! He is explosive in open space, he can get free across the middle, he is exceptional in the redzone and I’d be remiss if I failed to mention that he’s a willing blocker for his teammates. His deep play ability is such a scare for other teams, it makes the comeback route, which is his favorite, automatic because secondaries must respect any post or go ball. RJ may not run the fastest 40 time but he has real game speed, which is a more important attribute. This rising standout have a long wingspan, so it gives him a wider catch radius than most wideouts his size. Opposing teams have rarely played him one on one and the ones that did, paid for it. He saw many different bracketed coverages, including two corners and a safety over top at times. There was a game this past season where KIPP Sunnyside played against a school with one of the top recruits in the country and he was tasked with guarding RJ. To command that kind of attention, that is the highest form of respect an athlete can get. Wilson broke school records with 67 receptions, 1,403 receiving yards, 23 receiving touchdowns, while only playing in 11 games. He’s also good in the classroom with a 3.2 GPA. This kid is criminally overrated but not for much longer. His name is starting to gain steam. Once he gets his first athletic offer, the floodgates will open. I recently caught up with Rodney Wilson Jr to discuss his football background, take a look below…
I want to know your first memory of playing football as a kid. My first memory about playing football is me scoring touchdowns wen I was four years old.
Who is the most influential person(s) in your life right now and how do they keep you level-headed? The most influential people in my life right now is my family. They keep me motivated because of the conditions we’re living in.
What are your game day rituals? On game day, I like to relax and vibe all day at school, then when we get called down to eat, it’s game time and it’s mandatory for Uno to take a nap before every game.
In detail, what’s the hardest part about being a student athlete these days with social media being a heavy influence? The hardest part about it is trying to avoid distractions and not being a follower.
As a WR, how would you best describe your playing style, and is there anyone you model your game after? My style is more 1 on 1, playing fast but also taking my time on certain things. I model my game after Davante Adams.
You had a breakout junior season in 2024, which garnered some collegiate attention. What are some schools you’d like to earn an offer from? I would love to get a offer from UTEP, Howard University and Lamar Unviersity.
Talk about the important role your high school coaches play on & off the field. My coaches try their best to get players looked at and have schools come visit us during the offseason.
What are your individual goals as a player for your upcoming senior year? My goals for my senior season is to get faster so I can dominate and get college offers.
If you weren’t an athlete, what could you see yourself doing and why? If i wasn’t an athlete, I would be owning my own trucking business.
What would you like for your future college coaches to know about you, the person and player they would be getting? I want my college coaches to know that I stay out of trouble, I’m coachable, I’m consistent, I work hard and that I’m always ready when my name is called.
In your own words, define success. Success to me means taking care of your family and being dependable in many ways.
