Quarterback Leads Refugio to 28-7 Win over Post in Class 2A, Division 1 Title game

Refugio High School quarterback Austin Ochoa scored all four TDs in the Bobcats’ 28-7 victory over Post Wednesday in the Class 2A Division 1 state championship game at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.

Ochoa, who scored on runs of 2, 1, 5 and 1 yards, rushed for 116 yards on 27 carries and he threw for 207 yards. Ochoa was named the game’s offensive MVP.

Both teams started out slow and turnovers dominated the first quarter.

Post scored the first points of the game after recovering a Refugio fumble at the 28. It took five plays to cover the 28 yards, with Ashton Jefferson scoring on a 6-yard run.

The Refugio offense and defense settled in after the Post TD.

The Bobcats tied the game in the second quarter with a 12-play, 61 yard scoring drive. Ochoa carried the ball on 10 of those 12 plays and scored on a 2-yard run.

Refugio got the ball first in the third quarter and drove 63-yards on nine plays to take the lead. The drive was capped by Ochoa’s 1 yard TD run.

The Refugio quarterback hit Ethan Perez for a 61-yard completion late in the third quarter to kick start the Bobcat’s third touchdown drive. Ochoa rand three straight times to complete the four-play drive and his 5-yard TD run made it 21-7 with 11:46 left in the game.

On Refugio’s very next possession, Ochoa hit Jaden Hubbard for a 42-yard completion then he ran the ball four straight time to complete the 5-play scoring drive. His 1-yard TD run made it 28-7 with 6:55 left in the game.
