Longview blows by Vandegrift 56-28, advances to quarterfinals

Waco- The Longview Lobos used a second half surge to blow past Vandegrift 56-28 at McLane Stadium. The victory gives the Lobos their first 13-0 start since 1997.

Longview (13-0) was able to get on the board first putting together a 12-play drive that was capped off by a Haynes Kingtouchdown run from 2-yards out.

The Vipers were forced to kick the first punt of the game at the 4:45 mark of the second quarter.

Longview would cough the ball up once again on a bobbled snap and Zack Gillcrest recovered for Vandegrift at their own 47 yard line.

Keilyn Williams broke loose for a 36-yard run that set Longview up with a first-and-goal from the two yard line.

Penalties would push the Lobos back to the five, but King was able to hit Williams on a 6- yard touchdown pass and out the Lobos ahead 28-21.

The Lobos forced a three-and-out by Vandegrift to start the second half and increased their lead to 35-21 just a few plays later.

Kaden Kearbey slipped behind the Vipers’ secondary and King lofted the ball in his direction for a 48-yard touchdown.

Jacob Johnson was able to pick off Dawson and give Longview the ball at their own 37 yard line.

Once again King would pick apart the Vandegrift defense and march Longview into the redzone. Williams would take a handoff and bounce outside for an 8-yard touchdown.

Vandegrift got their final touchdown of the game on a 16-yard run by Smallwood, which was his third rushing touchdown of the night.

Longview will face Spring Westfield (12-1) in the quarterfinals with a location and time TBD.
