The 2019 high school football season will start with two of the DFW’s most successful programs kicking off the season.

Allen will host Cedar Hill at 7 PM on Friday, Aug. 30 in the Tom Landry Classic at Eagle Stadium. Colleyville Heritage will face Lovejoy at 7 PM on Saturday, Aug. 31 as the second part of the 20th annual event.

For the past 19 years, the Tom Landry Classic has been one of the premier high school football events in the country. The annual doubleheader showcases four of the top high school programs in Dallas-Fort Worth.

The Tom Landry Classic showcases four of the region’s top high school teams. The Classic was created to honor the legacy of legendary NFL Coach, Tom Landry who led America’s Team, the Dallas Cowboys to two Super Bowl victories.

For the second time in three years, the Eagles and Longhorns kick off the season against each other, headlining the 20th annual Tom Landry Classic. It’s a stage Allen is all too familiar with, having played in the event 13 times — tallying a 12-1 record, including three wins over Cedar Hill.

The only win by Cedar Hill over Allen was in 1977 in a 12-9 game defensive struggle. Allen holds the advantage from a historical perspective of 9 wins against the one loss over the Longhorns but throw out the record book when Carlos Lynn brings his 2019 squad to town. Cedar Hill will be breaking in a new quarterback in Kaidon Salter, a dual-threat passer who led Bishop Lynch to a state runner-up finish at the private school level last season.

Allen has only lost three games in the last six years advancing to at least the state semifinals in each of the last seven years and winning four state titles since 2012. But head coach Terry Gambill ‘s Eagles are in a rebuilding mold and the Longhorns’ athletic big play offense will test a young Allen defense, which returns only one starter (senior linebacker Jaden Healy).
