ARLINGTON- MARTIN FIRES ON ALL CYLINDERS TO DEFEAT RICHARDSON AND ADVANCE TO AREA ROUND

Martin Quarterback Zach Mundell scored five touchdowns including a 70-yard punt return to lead Martin over Richardson high in the bi-district round of the 6A DI playoffs 58-14. Martin will advance to play the winner of the McKinney Boyd and Lewisville matchup in the second round of the 6A Division I Playoffs.

Martin used all three phases of its game to beat Richardson. Mundell had the punt return, while Martin also had multiple fake punt conversions, and two point attempt conversions to keep this game in control and out of reach from the first play.

One of the more notable play sets in the game was a 4th and 16 pass completion from Cydd Ford to Morice Blackwell Jr. Ford would go on to catch the ensuing touchdown pass from Mundell on the next play for the Warriors. Blackwell Jr. would also find himself with a passing touchdown, connecting with Ernest Cooper IV for a 13-yard touchdown on a end-around play.

The Martin Defense was sharp as always, only allowing 29 passing yards during the game. The most interesting stat from tonight would be how Martin held Richardson to a single passing yard for a majority of the game. The Richardson offense ended up with 29 yards passing on 7 completions in the game.

Defensive Back Lenard Lemons was effective when he got the ball for Martin. Lemons came up with the interception, and also scored a kickoff touchdown from 95-yards out in the third quarter.

Judah Allred and Aaron Bertrand both scored for Richardson. The two combined for 134 yards on the ground.
