Talking UTSA Commitment with Summer Creek OG Luke Lapeze

UTSA’s first-year head coach, Jeff Traylor has been firing on all cylinders when it comes to recruiting. His 2021 class currently sits at number 79 nationally and fourth in Conference USA. Back in mid-late April coach Traylor landed seven 2021 recruits in just one weekend. Most notably including Pioneer quarterback Eddie Lee Marburger and Woodville linebacker JaCorey Hyder.

Coach Traylor and the 2021 Roadrunners class now sits at 13 commits. Most recently, Luke Lapeze decided to announce his commitment to UTSA yesterday.

“Coach Traylor is a really great coach and I knew immediately he was building a great program and a great recruiting class. Also, coach Mattox is an amazing coach I’ve heard nothing but good things about him it was an easy decision.,” Lapeze said.

Coach Matt Mattox in December of 2019 was brought on to UTSA to be a the run-game coordinator as well as the offensive line coach.

Lapeze via 247Sports is a three-star offensive guard for Summer Creek. He’s ranked as the 105th best at his position for the class of 2021 and the 292nd best player overall in the state of Texas.

Lapeze chose UTSA over Abilene Christian, New Mexico State, and Northern Colorado.

“Something that I think led me to success is my work ethic,” the 6’5 275-pound guard said. “I always am improving my mind and body.”

Summer Creek last season finished 4-6 just missing out on the playoffs. With Lapeze on the line of scrimmage, Summer Creek averaged over 32 points per game last season.

“You can expect big things from Summer Creek. This year we are going to be something special for sure,” Lapeze said.

Back in May, Summer Creek wide receiver Elijah Bean committed to Baylor. Now, his teammate Luke Lapeze announces he’s going to UTSA. Summer Creek is brimming with talent and Lapeze is one of the best that they have to offer.

He’s the 10th Texan to commit to the UTSA 2021 class. He joins Mansfield’s River Gordon and Robert Vela’s Ronnie Garza as other offensive linemen who will be responsible to block for Eddie Lee Marburger in the future.

“I’m a down to earth hard working guy who will do anything to win!” Lapeze exclaimed.
