I spoke with 2023 ATH and University of Houston commit, JaKoby Banks about his football background. Banks is one of the most versatile players coming out of the Houston area. The ability JaKoby has to switch to different positions upon need makes him a rare breed. Take an in-depth look at Fort Bend Marshall’s star player.
I want to know your first memory playing football as a kid.
I started playing football when I was 3 and I can’t really remember it but I know my first time touching the football, I ran the wrong way once then scored all the rest of the touchdowns in that game.
Who is the most influential person(s) in your life right now that keeps you level-headed?

My game day rituals are pulling up to school blasting music, and me and the guys always play this game of catch in the locker room before every game.
Last year, ya’ll were knocked out by Barbers Hill in a first round upset. What is your mindset going into your senior year with how last season ended?
My mindset going into my senior year is that I don’t ever want to look in the stands with 2 minutes left in the 4 quarter and see my fans leaving that hurt me and I’m going to try my hardest to make sure it’s the other way around this year!
I noticed you play multiple positions. Where do you feel most comfortable at why?
I feel most comfortable everywhere on the field as long as I have the ball I’m going to cause problems.
Which pro player(s) (current or retired) do you study the most and why?
Stephon diggs – he is very underrated and he got it out the mud like I did.
How have any of your high school coaches played an important role in your life?
My high school coaches individually means the world to me. They have molded me and built me into the man I’m becoming and they are a big help on me take the step to the next level.

My individual goals are to break school records and be the first to win a state championship.
If you wasn’t an athlete, what could you see yourself doing?
If I wasn’t an athlete I’d be a very famous actor.
What went into your decision to stay home and commit to The University of Houston?
Me being a Houston kid made it easy to choose Houston but that’s not the total reason I picked Houston. I could’ve went anywhere in the country and played ball and been the man in someone else’s city because I’m going to shine wherever I go but I wanted to do that for my city and be the man of my city.
In your own words, define success.
Success is being able to accomplish your goals and do it so well that other people can feed off of it and learn from it.
