Beyond The StatZ: feat. Malachi Flores

First of all, good luck on year one. I want to know your very first memory playing football as a kid.

First memory playing football as a kid is when I was about 7 years old, rushing the ball (as Quarterback) against a Flour Bluff peewee team.

Who’s most influential in your life right now that keeps you level-headed?

Hands down it has to be my mother, she’s been there for me ever since I’ve needed her, and she continues to do so.

What are your game day rituals?

I wouldn’t say it’s much of a ritual, but I watch film on the opposing team defense all the way up to kickoff.

What is your mindset going into this season with everything that has happened so far?

Just continue to work hard, stay consistent and most importantly, to STAY READY!

How did playing high school football prep you for Texas A&M Kingsville?

Playing high school football put me through a variety of different games and scenarios, such as playing the top ranked player in the state and the eventual state champions. Therefore, giving me a ton of playing experience.

Which pro player(s) (current or retired) do you watch the most & why?

I mostly watch Cam Newton, Russell Wilson, and Odell. The reason why is because I believe Newton embodies the definition of leader and how vocal he is to his entire team and how much he enjoys playing. Russell Wilson – because of his outstanding vision, no matter the scenario he is faced with in the backfield he never lose his awareness of all of his targets downfield. Lastly, Odell purely because of the passion and love he has for the game is unmatched.

In what ways have any of your high school coaches played an important role in your life?

They instilled in me no matter who you are or where you’re from, anything is possible if you put the work in and keep faith in the goal at hand.

What are your individual goals as a freshman?

I would say just to become accustomed to the whole college ball environment and compete with my all every single day.

Talk about the most challenging thing you’ve had to overcome while playing football.

Adversity from what seems like having all the odds stacked against your team, and prevailing through it all in the end!

What are your goals after football?

I don’t have goals after football, I plan on playing in the league until I retire – Just kidding lol but I want to pursue a career in engineering somewhere here in the United States or maybe even overseas.

In your own words, define success.

Success in my own words is being completely satisfied with the outcome of any meaningful goal at hand.
