Waco- The Grandview defense was able to shut down the Wing T attack of Franklin and defeat the eighth ranked Lions in the process 24-21 at WISD Stadium.
The Zebras took a 17-14 lead in the third quarter on a 33-yard field goal by senior Landon Seale.
Junior LB Antonio Arellano would pick off Franklin QB Colton Ortner and return it for a Zebra touchdown and extend the Grandview lead to 24-14.
The Lions started the game off hot, as they only needed three plays from scrimmage to go 89-yards and take the first lead of the game.
Grandview (12-2) switched up their offensive philosophy from pass first to run first after their opening possession and it paid off.
The Zebras were able to get their first lead of the game on the opening minutes of the second quarter.
Sophomore QB Dane Jentsch found Cooper Deans in the back of the end zone for a 5- yard touchdown. The PAT was good and Grandview pulled out in front 7-6.
Jentsch would extend the Grandview lead to 14-6 with 5:46 remaining in the second quarter, this time with his legs from 7-yards out.
Franklin (10-2) would tie the game at 14 on a 37-yard run by Jared Pedrazain the middle of the third quarter.
The Lions wouldn’t score again until there was :54 remaining in the game and once again it was Pedraza.
The Zebras were able to stop the Franklin momentum with a fumble recovery by junior Brody Smith.
Grandview will face East Chambers in the quarterfinals with a time and date TBD.
